Code of Conduct
Our commitment
The ICCC brings together chemists from across the world, spanning every career stage, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, ability, and background. The strength of our community comes from this diversity and from the free, respectful exchange of ideas it makes possible.
The organising committee is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and harassment-free experience for everyone. We expect all participants to help us create a collegial atmosphere in which science can flourish and every attendee feels respected and able to contribute.
Who and where this applies to
This code applies to all participants — delegates, speakers, poster presenters, session chairs, symposium organisers, committee members, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and staff.
It applies in all conference spaces and at all conference activities, including the lecture halls and parallel sessions, poster sessions, the opening reception, coffee and lunch breaks, the social programme (including the excursions to Egeskov and Holckenhavn castles and associated dinners), and any official conference communication channels, online platforms, or social media used in connection with the event.
Expected behaviour
All participants are asked to:
- Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and consideration, regardless of background or status.
- Communicate openly and thoughtfully, and engage critique of scientific work in good faith — challenging ideas, not attacking people.
- Be mindful that colleagues come from many cultures and languages; what is routine in one setting may be unfamiliar or unwelcome in another, so err toward inclusiveness and patience.
- Be especially welcoming and supportive toward early-career researchers and students, whose participation is essential to the future of the field.
- Respect the shared use of conference spaces and facilities, and follow the reasonable instructions of organisers and venue staff.
- Look out for one another, and alert a member of the organising team if you have a concern for someone’s wellbeing or safety.
Unacceptable behaviour
The following will not be tolerated:
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form, including conduct based on gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or career stage.
- Unwelcome sexual attention or advances, sexual comments, and unwelcome physical contact.
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Verbal abuse, insults, demeaning remarks, or sustained disruption of talks, poster sessions, or other events.
- Photography, audio, or video recording of a person or their unpublished scientific work without their consent (see below).
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith or assists in addressing one.
Disagreement and rigorous scientific debate are welcome and expected; personal attacks and harassment are not.
Photography, recording, and social media
Sharing science is part of the conference, but presenters retain control over their unpublished results. Unless a presenter has clearly indicated otherwise:
- Do not photograph or record slides, posters, or speakers, and do not post their content online, without the presenter’s permission.
- Treat unpublished data as confidential.
- When sharing about the conference on social media, be respectful and do not identify individuals in a negative or compromising way without consent.
Alcohol and the social programme
Several social events serve alcohol. Please drink responsibly and remember that this code of conduct applies in full at every social function. Intoxication is never an excuse for unacceptable behaviour.
Reporting a concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this code, or have any related concern, please tell us. You can:
- Speak in person to any member of the organising committee or conference staff, who can be found at the registration desk during conference hours.
- Contact the conference team by email at iccc2026@sdu.dk or by phone at +45 XX XX XX XX.
Reports will be handled discreetly and taken seriously. We will listen, respect your confidentiality to the extent possible, and support you in deciding how to proceed. You are welcome to bring a colleague or supporter with you when raising a concern.
In an emergency, or if anyone is in immediate danger, call the Danish emergency number 112.
How concerns are handled
A designated response team will review reports promptly and discreetly. Where a violation has occurred, the organisers may take any action they judge appropriate, which may include a private warning, a request to stop the behaviour, exclusion from particular sessions or social events, or removal from the conference without refund. Serious matters may be referred to venue security or local authorities. The organisers’ decisions in matters of conduct are final for the duration of the event.
